Products for Sale

To help share the vision for Asteria, we created a video where Dan Gailey talks about the product and long-term goals. Presenting the vision in a format like this was a great way to simplify and describe what Asteria is. #startup #artificialIntelligence #ml #ai #blockchain

Dan Gailey soldering leads for a prototype.

Quick update: I’m reconciling some architecture change. (Moving the companion/router software to be instantiated by the boot loader ) and having all message brokerage happening through “Watcher” (just brokers messages and global device contexts and modes to all agents on the system).

After this, I’ll be abstracting the template app from the “Collector” app we’ve created so developers can get up and running on the device emulator software quickly.

Should be done by Sunday, then a quick test to make sure registration, synchronization, and notifications work from device <-> platform, then we should be releasing our first extremely early alpha version.

I’ll then work on docs and laying out the goals of the architecture and software for everyone, so people can participate how they’d like.

We’ve also just expanded the team with a Mech Engineer, and we’re also putting up a job spec for Conversational Theorist. (see Pask)

Very exciting :)

A project Dan Gailey and I have been working on has finally launched this morning and we wanted to share it with the community. https://getasteria.com

Asteria is your artificial intelligent companion that you carry with you. It sees what you see, hears what you hear, takes in life as you do, and gets smarter all along the way. Asteria connects the dots between your physical and digital life.

As we continue to work on our product, we will continue to share updates and deep learnings into our product roadmap here.

I looked over the website and this has piqued my interest to a degree most tech doesn't these days.

Nathan Ross On a more serious note, this tech looks incredible, I'm really hyped to see where it goes and hope to get the opportunity to make some apps on the device

Zachary Crownover Awesome automator of stuff

A question came to mind this morning. Say I have an Asteria and say it breaks, not that I question the craftsmanship, but pretty much anything but a Nokia cell phone can break. So let's say you're absent minded and wash it with your clothes or accidentally run over it with your car or whatever. You decide, I really loved Asteria and want a replacement, so you buy a new one. Does the new Asteria pick up where the old one left off knowing you, or is it a brand new companion that learns anew and gets its own personality? That's sort of a two part thing. I.e., can you replace and/or upgrade. The other part to that is, say you're clumsy and lose your Asteria by whatever means, so you buy another. Given the response to the previous of if it's the same or new Asteria mind, what happens if you find your old Asteria? Is there a split brain?

Zachary Crownover Yes. We're providing a back-end as well as an api for synchronizing agents across devices. The Asteria device is simply an avatar, or physical representation of your agent on your device. Just as you can sync your apps on your phone, you'll be able to sync your agents.

Writing ascii art in our documentation. Reminds me of the old school RFCs I used to read. (Looking at you RFC 793)

Some Illustrations to ZAZZ up the site.

Working on the concurrency / parallel programming architecture for the device software. Main loop: runs concurrent processes assigned to each control system / interface (eg. checking for messages/emails/data return from bots, conversation), main loop is used to check for incoming events and brokers messages for the other processes.

each concurrent process / coroutine can be controlled via messages from the main control loop.

Asteria will be the dawn of a new era. I wonder if we had some inspiration from this?

Here are a few illustrations for the site.

You'll notice several things: Shared modular ontologies, these are representations and relationships of knowledge built by the agents (human/bots), context (relationships) is the mapping of device awareness onto ontologies (when and how to use knowledge), distributed AI/ML processing by devices that have their own agents, these agents switch device processing context based on environment and contract/tasks required, Device observation/action for contract/task, and how contracts are finally chained together to perform an overall task.

The first image our prototype produced. I look highly skeptical. hahaha

Design of the product with specs...

Here are a few directions for fonts and colors. #design #fonts #colors #branding

Here are the early drawings of mine as well as the cleaned up versions by Nathan Ross - These are to be used as placeholders for the site.

Based on the initial designs by Dan Gailey here is the first version of the website comp's new direction. #design #wireframes #ux #website #photoshop

So here is logo #2 with a few colors and sizes to show its use. My next step will be picking colors for the branding, and placing this on a comp of the main landing page to show how it looks. I also replaced the "s". Once I have colors/etc. picked I will go through this logo with a fine comb to fix letter spacing and any pixel issues. #logo #design #branding #fonts

Here's a better image grab of the 4 options. #logo #branding #design

Here are my latest designs. I had to freehand the logo icon to create a vector version since I could not find a spiral plugin for Illustrator that isn't 10 years old haha. I'll figure out better options to create this in the future, but this should work. The next step I did was do a weight and font exploration. I have my favorite but let me know what you think of the 4 I chose as finalists Andy Shimmin and Dan Gailey . And fonts look rasterized if you expand, so try to look past that. The next step after this is to clean up the option chosen, throw in some colors, and finalize. #logo #branding #design

I think the logo might go better above (if it's going to remain that large) or to the right and above of the name.

also, you could use the spirograph program, and import and live trace it in illustrator to create the vector.

And for #2 I'll take this font and tweak it. Cool we have a direction.

Here is the logo icon with 7 points. It gives me a vibe of a sherriff badge but maybe that's just me :) Please share thoughts and I'm moving along with other feedback I've already received.

The idea are nodes connecting, and giving a star feel. Everything connected and coming together.

I don't like the edges in the middle, it's too abrupt. the nodes aren't big enough and the middle is too large.

Qnfckbgo

Dan Gailey Baqqer Founder

It's not round enough.

The original logo sketch. As noted in a private conversation, the end nodes should be wide, with the internal area balanced with the visual strength of the nodes. I thought 7 nodes would be good, but the piece of software I suggest we use: http://nathanfriend.io/inspirograph/ has only 6 pointed symbols at 144/96 + 80 at 13th dot from the outside.

Here is an updated version of the logo, exploring a different icon. Next step will be to try to choose brand colors and font type. #logo #branding #design

When I scaled down the logo the ends lost their size. Next version will fix that. Thanks.

This is a simple layout of how the service request and agent contract flow will go.

Notes from Dan Gailey on 40 hours of no sleep on Asteria's interface

Thinking about third party look-up and authorization for services available to devices.

Thinking about device types, inductive charging, separate device modules (one housing the battery, the other housing the components). Thinking about the logo, and some other elements of the camera's agent/viewer perspective when considering multiple orientations.

Device design abstraction, early design ideas, some thinking about components.

Dan Gailey ah, that's not what I meant. Narrative had a great product (notwithstanding my faulty unit), and so did Zeo. By lessons I mean understanding why they didn't make it despite having great products, and hopefully avoid making the same mistakes. Of course assuming that, unlike Apple, you are a startup that needs to worry about rounds of investment, the "valley of death", etc

AT&T Shape Hackathon going strong! #teamasteria

Some of the early notes I mused up thinking about how the communicator might function. It ties back into the idea of ambient intelligence, quantified living, the future of labor, autonomous agents and systems:

'''
Enables every human to become part of the autonomous agent network, utilizing AI to guide human labor. “Pick this up”, “Get on this bus”, “Drop this off” takes command driven human capital to another level. Let the computer run your life.

Start with “In the future”

Helping people find their place in the universe.

Efficiently place/fit humans in an increasingly autonomous world, use video/camera data to train robotics to one day take over those jobs. Deep learning to encode user’s voice to device. Humans have been forever used relative to technology to gap the inefficiency in work output until technology has advanced enough to cover that gap for us. This cycle repeats itself until the technology has surpassed man’s ability to discover, adapt, and exploit those inefficiencies between resource/input and some marketable output. We now work in harmony within our autonomous system.

Start building consumer / life profiles for users for artificial intelligent assistants.
'''

Journal notes about the architecture and design of the product.

Some additional musings of the project. Here you can see my thinking about the product experience, single and multi touch buttons, audio namespaces, audio bots and their relevance to traditional bot/agent implementation, and device modes. Additionally some thought to the presentation outlines. This was literally on the back of an envelope.

First notes getting down the vision and architecture of the service. Also logo ideas. I had a celestial theme for playa that has been carried through here. I wanted a name for a Greek/roman character that had some relationship with the stars.

Also you can make out where I start introducing the idea of an interpreter with the multi-agent audio bot router interface.

Hey Andy Shimmin excited to have you on board for this hackathon :) I'll be working on the presentation and branding primarily. Excited to see your thoughts and inspirations for the physical device appearance.
